Soarin with removable goggles commission for :icontoadma:

This one was SOOOOO difficult!!! Sculpting those lightning bolts, that cutie mark and those removable goggles was a nightmare!!

Oh...and his wings are pose-able!!!

Before I say anything else, I'm going to say that it's really good. It is. It must have been a pain in the ass to make, and it's awesome.

That said, the face looks freaky from the front. The way the eyes are set so far apart, along with the goggles, makes it look a little unsettling. But that's pretty much it.

Otherwise, it looks great.

Awww~ Thats so adorable! :aww:~ I lvoe how you did the cutie mark by smoothing it out but still making it 3d~ The goggles are also a real nice touch. ^^

Yeah, I cut a notch between the clouds to recess the lightning bolt because the first time stuck out too far!! Glad you noticed that :)

Those goggles were a second attempt after the first ones broke!

Thanks, and yeah, he was a bitch to do! When I first agreed to make him I never imagined it would take me almost 4 hours to make the 4 lightning bolts on his legs look right....for some reason I thought they would be easy,...I thought wrong!

:iconmadponyscientist:

That one wouldn't be that difficult if I had a big enough oven. The small the details are, the harder they are to do. On a technical level, that one is pretty easy.

Ya, but with what we see from your work, if you did do something like this, it would be bond words XD

Wow, that's good! But how do you get the goggles to be removed?
Reply
:iconmadponyscientist:
MadPonyScientist Featured By Owner Dec 9, 2012
There is a wire inside the clay so it is slightly bendable and is just long enough to meet the mane so it looks show accurate when he is wearing them.

:iconaleximusprime:

So that clay is bendable clay?
Reply
:iconmadponyscientist:
MadPonyScientist Featured By Owner Dec 9, 2012
No, but as long as polymer clay is relatively thin it remains slightly bendable.
