well, the cannon barrel only goes in about 1/4 of an inch so you couldn't really get gunpowder in it :)

Her expression made me spit out my coffee. Your work always amazes me!

In all honesty, though, her right hind leg looks kind of odd. It makes it seem as if she's walking forward, pushing the cannon behind her... Maybe that's what you were going for, I have no idea.

Thanks and I agree, her leg is actually lifted in the air. The reason is that it was lifted just like that in the cartoon so i made it the same :)

I actually keep keep caps-locked disabled on my computers for that reason... Indeed I can't imagine getting the balancing down was super easy. What did bring up the sudden urge to make a timeless Pinkie Pie? I figured it was a commission 'til it I read my journal stack and notice it was on eBay. I would hope it sells well it's a big and awesome display piece for any major Pinkie Pie fan!

Well, Pinkie Pie is my favorite pony. I like to make Luna more but Pinkie is actually my favorite and she is my second favorite to make. I always like trying to figure out how to make her hair look right. I think I got it pretty good this time. I usually just use my imagination but this time I studied the picture and there is an unusual lump that has to be in the back (that they never show in any pictures)in order for it to make the side work but I think I did it the only way it would be possible and it still looks good! As for an old timeless one, I usually try to make her being silly like when she was using TS as a gun and I know her party cannon was popular and I don't think anyone has made her with it yet so I did. I was going to do a Derpy with her muffin bazooka type gun but Viistar beat me to it and did a fantastic job (other than the gun bazooka not being sculpted and not looking right) so if I made her she wouldn't look as good so I guess I will just have to make Derpy stuck in her mailbox again. I don't put any faith in ebay anymore and it is also because there are a lot more sculptors that put their stuff on there and will let it sell for $35 even though they spent 10 hours on it and by the time the subtract for materials and ebay and paypal fees will be making about $2.50 an hour...sorry, I just won't do it! Unfortunately, it means I have about 10 of my more elaborate pieces on my shelf still because I won't sell them for peanuts.... Who knows..the fact that this is an older Pinkie scene from the show may mean it won't sell either.

Her hair did turn out amazingly, I loved the fact you did the line engraving for it as well! From an art point of view Pinkie Pies hair is to me the worst of the mane six. It just has such strange lines and curves and is so easy to look completely off. XD

Derpy stuck in a mail-box is pretty damn classic derpy to me... So it's hard to argue with that. XD

Yeah, eBay any more is all about selling lots of things for peanuts or tricking people with high shipping. XP An always tricky one is a lot of artist are hobbyists and when you are a hobbyist the golden rule is "If it pays for it's self that's awesome!"
It's hard to compete with people who see their work time as the equivalent to being paid to play Mario games. XD

The point that it is from a now older scene is probably very sadly true... People are so quick to be all about the now that they can't appreciate the nostalgia of the past! Which of course when you are buying something you will be displaying for years... To me it would seem a better idea to make sure thing you plan on displaying have a pretty good nostalgia value, so you don't wind up closeting it anytime soon, but a lot of people impulse buy based off what they like that week, than a month or so later decide they like something newer better than box up the older one. The very idea makes me kind of sad actually. Art not being displayed somewhere just living in a box...

Digressing though~

One thing you might try is hitting up a Pony Con, I've read about many artist in their journals now who sale next to nothing online for months, hit a con and are sold out within a couple hours. I accredit it to two major things. #1 People seem to go to cons to spend lots of money and impulse buy things. #2 Once people *see/feel* the quality in something they are more impressed and are more willing to part with $100~500 for a single item.

It's kind of funny because I don't make these for myself and never have. I don't want to keep any of them. My problem is that when I list one of these, I don't expect to make a bunch of money off it, but at the same time I don't want to feel insulted. A perfect example is my Fluttershy and Big Mac snowglobe...I spent about 12 hours making that damn thing and then put it on eBay and nobody bought it at the $60 buy it now price but someone DID send me an offer of $15 for it. The snowglobe by itself cost me $18 and then the clay and 12 hours of my time and "talent" that went into it. That was insulting. I have been told that I have some talent so when a person with a talent that not everyone has spends 8 to 20 hours on something and people are not willing to pay more than $40 for it I take that as an insult. It'
s not about getting rich but when someone offers a reasonable amount of money for my time and effort and "talent" that went into one of these then I feel appreciated and am happy. Comments from people that don't have much money but really like it makes me happy but the people that are interested in buying it but are not willing to pay hardly anything for it...those are the ones that I am insulted by and it seems that eBay only attracts those nowadays...for me at least. I say for me because it seems that some other sculptors still sell pretty well. It might be the fact that I have made so many that people aren't that interested in my stuff anymore and are more interested in the newer artists like Viistar. It could also just be that Viistar does make some pretty darn nice ponies in really cute poses. I think I am coming to the conclusion that after remaking Derpy in the mailbox that I am sadly just going to start doing only the basic small cute ponies that I can make in 4 or 5 hours and sell for $40 so I am not insulted when I make a piece like the Celestia and Luna I just spent 30 hours on and couldn't sell for $230...

That dose seem to be the curse of being an artist really... You really tend to make everything for other people.
Which may also play into why so many artist are willing to make so little on their work, they just want others to have it rather than keep it around themselves, and if you're default prices are low just cause than they don't have to worry about feeling iffy if something doesn't sell... I don't deal in smellable art myself so I'm just making wild accusations really. XP
Though lately I've found my self thinking about my current practice art work a bit... When I make SFW stuff I always strive to hang it up in my own place and enjoy it as I figure no one else really cares. But with the fast practice NSFW stuff the entire meaning of things kind of changes... Really a lot of NSFW art is intended to be used, people use it a few times than toss it into an archive folder than maybe use it rarely in the future. But it's less of pure art, and more of a thing that serves a purpose which is strange to think about...

That is getting way off topic I'm going to just be digressing now~XD|XP

It's kind of tricky with grander stuff like the Luna x Celestia sculpture, one thing I think they have going against them compared to the small cheap cute things, is that many people are not proud enough to properly show them off.
If you KNOW you are going to be showing something off and are going to be proud of it spending $200+ on a display item isn't that bad. But if people are insecure about things than they waffle and even if they would love to have it out on display for themselves they don't want to have to worry about having to put things up when family come to visit...etc. Which if surveys have show us anything there are still a lot of "edgy" fans in the fandom... and back to the point if people are edgy for personal reasons they are less likely to buy something.

Though you also have the fact that many of the fans in the fandom are collage kids. Even if they have the pride and the money to handle it, they may not have the space, cute small or plush are a lot easier to have around a dorm room. XD

At least that's a couple of my theories of why some of your grander stuff doesn't sell quicker at reasonably prices.

I think I'm rambling to much XP sorry I woke up way late, than it's been busy and lunch is just about done but 4hrs late. XD So I'm probably getting fairly delirious from hunger... XP

Yeah, those are all valid points. I just wish I knew which was the most accurate but I will never know because even when I ask people things like this I don't get enough responses to make a truly informed decision. Like when i ask which pony to make next I get a few responses but not really enough to have a definite winner. I like that people like my crazy pony stuff but I want them to want it enough to not be insulting. I guess I am just going to have to retire the "mad" part of my user name and go with "SlightlyUnusualButMostlyNormalPonyScientist" :P

Either that or I will have to go the the next level of pure genius like RenegadeCow did with his automaton Fluttershy which is at almost $900. I told everyone (and most scoffed at me) that it would hit the $1000 or more mark and if it didn't then that is truly insulting. Even at $1000 he is making just over $5 an hour because of the 182 hours he put into it. Yeah, I think it is basic ponies from me from now on!!

I wish you had made the barrel hollow, so a party popper could be put inside,. Had I bought it, I could have outfitted the barrel with a metal insert to insure the popper would not damage the cannon.

i was going to but it would have taken much longer and unfortunately, people have a hard enough time as it is paying the prices mine usually go for so it would have been a lot more expensive and i don't think anyone would have bought it.

Nope!!! Her cannon comes off, she comes off and so does her tail. 3 separate pieces. If you lay her down she actually looks like she is looking at something on the ground and is about to touch it with her raised hoof.
